Tips For Municipal Water Treatment In Kenya

By Anthony Patterson

The municipality of every location is in charge of commercially distributed water. The supplied aquatic is expected to be safe enough for every end-user activity. Some of the common end-user activities include drinking, recreation, among other economic activities. There are a couple of steps that should be taken into consideration to guarantee the success of such activity. The following are tips for municipal water treatment in Kenya to consider.

Acquaint with factors that affect aquatic quality. There is a wide range of aspects that affect the quality of water. This includes dissolved oxygen, detergents, garbage, runoffs, sedimentation, and erosion. Environmental causes include sedimentation and runoffs whereas the rest are as a result of human activities. This includes litter, industrial garbage, pesticides, household and commercial cleaning.

Establish the coagulation and flocculation process. This is the first steps in treating aquatic that is used commercially. Chemicals that have positive charges are added in the water to neutralize the negative charges that the dissolved particles have. The particles join together to form larger particles that are known as flocs. They are removed through filtration or settling procedure.

Consider the sedimentation process. This procedure follows the flocculation process. In this process, the aquatic is passed on a large basin at a slow speed to allow the flocs to move to the bottom of the basin. The flocs are known as sludge and are removed using filtration process. They can be removed manually when the water has been drained from the basin.

Acknowledge how the filtration process is handled. Filtration is done after the sedimentation procedure is completed. In this process, the aquatic is passed through a filter which captures every solid component that is mixed in it. This includes gravel, sand and crushed anthracite as well. This process is essential to make disinfection effective enough. The filters are cleaned through a back washing procedure to remove the particles that have gathered on their surface.

Check the disinfection procedure. Different means are used in this process based on the marine quality. However, chlorine is widely used since it is very useful compared with the rest chemicals. Water from lakes, rivers, dams and other surface marine bodies should be treated using intensive measures since they have a lot of impurities. A similar process should be considered with borehole water.

Give the consumers a report that they can refer to. Municipalities are recommended to provide reports that indicate all the aspect that they have undertaken regarding marine supply. Such kind of decisions maintains transparency from the municipal side and creates confidence in the consumer part as well. The consumers usually find it easy to pose their view regarding the services provided by the municipal with the expectation of quick response.

Educate the consumer on domestic aquatic cure procedures. The consumers are expected to undertake their measures apart from the system that has been considered by the municipality. Some of the measures that can be undertaken include filtration, softening, distillation and other special management procedures. The special considerations are made when there is someone with low immune systems among the family members and when improving the taste.
