Why You Should Seek Breakfast Alternatives For Puffed Cereal

By Carol Parker

In every store that you walk in today, cereals take up more space in almost every food shelves. They are attractive, and many children today would prefer having this puffed cereal as part of their breakfast. As much as they are essential to the child, parents should have some limitations as to how much of the foods that they consume. This article explains why you should create some boundaries with these cereals.

As much as their beauty activates the need to buy these cereals, experts say that they are not rich in nutrients. For sure, they are cheap, but the nutrient content is not worth the money. In fact, it would be better for someone to purchase unprocessed grains. This is because most of these cereals contain synthetic nutrients added to them, which can be very toxic to our bodies.

To the most children taking cereals for breakfast, the meal is normal to them. When he or she ingests the meal, since the food contains synthetic nutrients, the meal may never go through proper digestion. This is because the foods are produced through a process known as extrusion. The process involves turning the grains into sludge, then the small pass-through holes. These holes determine the shape that the flakes, charms and puffed meals will take.

During extrusion, the grains pass through extreme pressure and temperature that changes the sludge to become dry. However, the extreme conditions inside the sludge may cause depletion of the nutrients that the food may have. Therefore, it will not be a shock to notice less protein percentage in them. As many consumers may never notice, but they will coat the grains with sugar and oil so that they can introduce a level of crunchiness and attractiveness.

The pancreas is the body organ in charge of producing insulin, which helps to maintain blood sugar levels in a body. Once you get used to these cereals, by consuming them daily, the pancreas begins to react negatively. Remember that the cereals may invoke a lot of sugar into your body; hence, insulin resistance kicks in, and you begin to feel hungry, tired or moody in the morning.

Phytates are dangerous substances in our body. The processed grains contain this substance, which in real sense regulates the way the body absorbs minerals. For instance, some of the minerals include calcium, iron, zinc, and magnesium. As a caution, manufacturers should be keen to ensure that all the phytates present in these foods are no longer available.

Because a lot of cereal consumption can be harmful to our bodies, then it would be a good idea to try out new breakfast ideas. One of the alternatives would be porridge. Most disregard this food, but they contain unprocessed grains, which contain all the nutrients that your body needs.

On the other hand, another breakfast alternative would be taking sprouted and dehydrated grain cereals. As much as they happen to be rare commodity, they are easy to make and may require time to understand how to prepare them. You can get them from health food stores and food isles.
