Making A Hole With Drilling In Florida

By Elizabeth Morgan

Bu pretty much every modern standard, the world used to be empty. Not that it actually was. Empty is a relative term. There was plenty of nature in the world, just no roads or banks or department stores of coffee shops. Mankind used to not need any of that. They used to just need the nature. For the majority of its time in existence, humans were nomads, living in tribes where they set about hunting and gathering, all in an effort to accumulate enough resources to survive the next day and the next. Then one tribe settled down. Instead of seeking resources, it decided to cultivate them by growing crops and raising livestock. They also, for the first time in their entire existence, lived in houses. Now, these early houses were fairly utilitarian. No running water and no electricity. Neither of which would appeal to a modern person. No, modernity requires creature comforts like running water and electricity. But those comforts do not come via a magical spell. No, they have to be powered, and to get the source of that power may require a little drilling in Florida.

Drilling is when a resource is pulled out from under the earth. Now, it can be done inland, usually in deserts. But it can also be done offshore, usually using large platforms. In any case, it will be done a good distance away from population centers.

It is done because there are resources that people need or want. Now, those resources do not just come up from under the ground of their own accord. No, they have to be prodded out by people. That is why drilling must be done, because there is currently no other way to extract fossil fuels.

Drilling is usually done for oil. But natural gases, an alternate fuel source, can also be drilled. The point is that when a large drill is employed, it is usually done for a fuel source.

Now, the industry does have quite the economic impact. The fact is that it opens up quite a number of long term jobs in the areas. These jobs may require workers to be away from their families for extended periods of time, but they often come with handsome compensation packages. Not to mention that they do not generally require a college degree. It is for this reason that this industry can create a small scale economic boom.

Safety should always be a primary concern. After all, a dead worker is an unproductive one. Now, drilling can be dangerous. If the systems in place to make it happen are not well maintained or well regulated, they can go haywire. This is especially dangerous on an oil platform, because that stuff has a tendency to be flammable.

Beyond that, there are also some environmental considerations to be made. If the resource spills or leaks, it can cause harm to the local flora and fauna. Then there is the fact the wildlife is displaced anyway when the infrastructure is erected. Now, the act itself can create a good amount of air pollution.

Now, drilling is fairly simple but also complex. In easy to understand terms, a drill goes into the ground. It makes a hole. At the bottom of that hole is the desired resource. Then it is extracted.

Being alive was never meant to be easy. That is the simple truth of the world. But humanity went ahead and made things easy because it was stubborn enough to do so. Of course, that ease needs to be powered, and that power needs to come from somewhere.
